Friday 28-December-2007

KHAN YOUNIS (PIC)– Fighters of the Qassam Brigades the armed wing of Hamas Movement on Thursday blocked and repelled IOF infantry units that attempted to infiltrate into the town of Abbasan east of Khan Younis city local sources confirmed.

The sources also added that the infiltrating IOF units were trapped by the QB fighters who according to the sources surprised the Israeli occupation soldiers and engaged them in fierce armed clashes at close range few metes away from the electronic fence that separates Gaza Strip from the rest of occupied Palestine.

Israeli Apache copters were seen hovering intensively over the area to give cover for the IOF troops’ withdrawal the sources and local eyewitnesses in the area confirmed.

The local eyewitnesses described the battle in Abbasan as “intense” affirming they saw the Israeli choppers interfering in the gun battle to rescue the trapped IOF soldiers.

They also added that the QB fighters opened anti-aircraft fire at the choppers forcing them to withdraw.

The incident disturbed the IOF top military brass as Hebrew media reports affirmed that the Israeli occupation army was investigating whether the Palestinian resistance fighters indeed used anti-aircraft weapons or not.

According to an Israeli website the Palestinian fighters unleashed an anti-tank RPG rocket at an Israeli chopper but the projectile missed its target.

But radio of the Israeli occupation army insisted that what the Palestinian fighters fired at the chopper was an anti-aircraft rocket and not an RPG.

The Qassam Brigades said that their fighters used heavy machine guns to fire at the choppers forcing them to withdraw or fly at high altitude.
