Madhoun denies that Haneyya’s government rejected initiative on Gaza exits

Friday 28-December-2007

GAZA (PIC)– Dr. Mohammed Al-Madhoun the director of the office of legitimate PA premier Ismael Haneyya on Thursday denied that he stated to media outlets that Haneyya’s government rejected an initiative to reopen Gaza crossing points.

In a press statement he made to clarify the matter and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC Madhoun affirmed “There is no truth to such media reports as in fact there was no clear and complete initiative presented by the PA officials in Ramallah city in this regard”.

He also confirmed that he was clear enough in responding to the parties that contacted him in this concern and said to them that the legitimate PA caretaker government of Haneyya was ready to discuss any “clear and comprehensive” initiative that might be presented on the matter.

Moreover Madhoun highlighted that Haneyya’s government was and still is striving to advance Palestinian national interest away from factional disputes or Israeli meddling in the Palestinian internal affairs in a way that he added “enhances Palestinian sovereignty and serves the besieged Palestinian people in Gaza”.

He underscored “We had presented an initiative to hand the crossing points of Gaza strip over to neutral [Palestinian] parties or private [Palestinian] firms to administer them in service of the interests of our Palestinian people away from Israeli interference and we are still amenable to that initiative”.

But Madhoun charged that facts on the ground prove that certain Palestinian parties were directly and indirectly involved and conniving with the Israeli occupation in tightening the economic blockade on Gaza by urging to keep those vital terminals especially the Rafah and the Mintar (Erez) crossing points closed.

“A mode of dissatisfaction had prevailed over the PA officials in Ramallah after Egypt allowed Palestinian pilgrims from Gaza Strip to pass through the Rafah terminal in addition to the fact that a coordination of high-level was made between the PA and Israel to allow entry of trucks loaded with propaganda materials [for Fatah faction] into Gaza Strip while trucks fully-loaded with children’s milk and foodstuff for Gaza inhabitants are being banned from crossing into the Strip” Madhoun confirmed.

PA chief Mahmoud Abbas and his close associates in Ramallah-based PA and Fatah leaders blamed Egypt for allowing the pilgrims to travel through the Rafah terminal but Egypt shrugged off the Abbas’s protest.

Tens of Palestinian patients including children and women among others suffering of chronic diseases had died over the past six months after the Israeli occupation authorities refused to give them exist permits to receive medical treatments outside Gaza Strip that suffers from severe shortages of medicine and medical equipments as a result of the unjust economic sanctions imposed by Israel on the tiny Strip.
