Jerusalemite campaign in defense of al-Aqsa

Sunday 2-April-2023

In recent days Palestinian activists launched a campaign titled “We will break the fast in Jerusalem” encouraging Palestinians to break the daily Ramadan fast at al-Aqsa Mosque and to increase the Muslim presence at the site.

The campaign came in coincidence with the Israeli growing attacks on al-Aqsa and the occupied city of Jerusalem amid calls for a massive break-in on the Hebrew Passover holiday.

Palestinian activists have widely promoted the campaign on social media calling for intensifying Palestinian presence and conducting itikaf a practice in which Muslims stay within a mosque for multiple days for prayer and worship at al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan.

The Jerusalemite activist Hanadi Halawani said that this campaign is targeting every Palestinian who can reach al-Aqsa Mosque in light of the Israeli challenges and dangers threatening the holy site.

Speaking to the PIC reporter Halawani said that the campaign aims to intensify the Palestinian presence at al-Aqsa and Occupied Jerusalem as much as possible.

Halawani was recently denied access to al-Aqsa Mosque for a week shortly after her release from her last arrest at the beginning of 2023.

Halawani was filmed in several videos that went viral on social media promoting the campaign.
