Palestinian inmates stage sit-in in Israeli jails

Friday 17-February-2023

Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails continue to step up their protest steps for the fourth consecutive day.

The Captive Movement decided to hold a sit-in in the prisons yards after Friday prayer calling for mass mobilization.

The Movement pointed out that talks with the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) failed to reach a mutual agreement warning of any Israeli attack on the protesting prisoners.

Earlier this week the Captive Movement declared a set of protest steps in all Israeli prisons that include a mass disobedience and an open hunger strike next Ramadan.

According to its announcement the protest steps came in rejection of the Israeli punitive measures imposed against the prisoners since the right-wing minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was sworn in as national security minister in the new Israeli government.

The statement pointed out that the Palestinian prisoners are readying themselves for organized disobedience which they anticipate will escalate into a full-scale hunger strike.
