General President of the West Bank’s UNRWA staff union Jamal Abdullah reported that salaries of 3000 Palestinian employees in West Bank and Jerusalem were cut down as a punishment for organizing a strike demanding salary increase.
“The union plans to escalate its protest steps” Abdullah underlined adding that they had set up a sit-in tent in the Sheik Jarrah neighborhood east of Occupied Jerusalem to make sure their demands are met.
According to Abdullah the UNRWA Staff Union had sent a letter to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres complaining about the violations committed by the UNRWA administration against employees in the West Bank.
He concluded that the employees in West Bank and Jerusalem renewed their calls on the UNRWA to pay their allowances.
Last January UNRWA staff union went on a general strike to protest against the agency’s lack of response to their demands.
