The UNRWA staff union in the Gaza Strip has announced that all the agency’s institutions will witness a general strike on the 9th of April.
In a press statement on Monday the union said that the UNRWA employees in the Gaza Strip will continue their administrative disobedience that might escalate into unprecedented protest steps in case the demands of the employees are not met.
The decision to escalate measures came after the Gaza headquarters office of UNRWA failed to solve problems related to the employees’ demands in the education and health sectors.
On the 27th of March the union announced that the administrative disobedience would include suspending all the courses workshops and other activities in all the UNRWA institutions.
The union underlined that the UNRWA employees are living under difficult economic conditions calling on the UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini to respond to the demands of the employees.
