Batsh condemns Borrell’s remarks on Palestinian right to defend Aqsa

Saturday 8-April-2023

Senior Islamic Jihad official Khaled al-Batsh has strongly denounced recent remarks made by Josep Borrell the European Union’s foreign policy chief in which he criticized the Palestinian resistance for defending the Islamic holy sites in Occupied Jerusalem.

“What the resistance did was in response to [Israeli] violations and the exposure of Muslim worshipers including women to severe beating at the Aqsa Mosque … which Borrell apparently heard and saw but decided to ignore” Batsh said in press remarks on Saturday.

The Islamic Jihad official stressed that the Israeli police assaults on Muslim worshipers and their prevention from completing their prayers were the spark that prompted the resistance [from Gaza and Lebanon] to “fulfill its duty and deter the occupation state.”

He pointed out that the passivity of the EU and the UN and their double standard attitude towards Israel’s criminal practices and their failure to take serious steps to stop the Israeli aggression at the Aqsa Mosque were the main reason that escalated the situation.

He warned that the recurrence of Israeli violations at the Aqsa Mosque would lead to the outbreak of renewed confrontation calling on the EU and its foreign policy chief to reconsider their policy towards the Palestinian cause and their bias in favor of the Israeli occupation state despite its crimes against the Palestinian people.

In a statement on Saturday Borrell condemned what he labeled as the “indiscriminate” rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and Lebanon as well as the resistance operations that killed two Israelis and seriously injured others.

Ignoring its daily violations and crimes against the Palestinians and their holy sites the EU official also claimed that Israel has the right to defend itself.
