Sheikh al-Khatib: The Israeli occupation disdains other faiths

Monday 17-April-2023

Sheikh Kamal al-Khatib deputy head of the Islamic Movement in 1948 occupied Palestine said that the Israeli assaults on Muslim and Christian worshipers in Jerusalem reflect that the Israeli occupation state is hostile to other religions.

In press remarks on Sunday Sheikh Khatib affirmed that the Israeli police’s recent assaults on Christians as they were trying to reach the Church of the Holy Sepulcher to celebrate a religious event and their repeated assaults on Muslims at the Aqsa Mosque confirm that the occupation state disdains other faiths.

He talked about al-Uhda al-Umariyya (Umar’s assurance of safety) in 638 AD in Jerusalem describing it as “the greatest and most famous charter in history regarding freedom of worship.”

He added that those who preach about democracy and their alleged respect for religions and human rights should learn lessons from al-Uhda al-Umariyya.
