The Israeli occupation forces detain deputies in the Palestinian Legislative Council regardless of their parliamentary immunity. They have arrested more than 70 deputies over the past few years.
The four MPs Hassan Yusuf Nasser Abdul Jawad Ahmad Saadat and Marwan al-Barghouti are currently held in Israeli prisons.
Hassan Yusuf 70 is an ex-prisoner who was arrested in 2021 two months after his release. He spent more than 25 years in Israeli prisons.
The detention of Nasser Abdul Jawad 54 was extended in 2022. He spent more than 19 years in Israeli prisons and he is held under administrative detention.
Ahmad Saadat 70 who has been detained since 2006 is serving a 30-year prison term.
Marwan al-Barghouti 65 has been detained since 2002 and is serving five life imprisonment sentences plus 40 years.
The Hamas Movement has warned of the repeated Israeli crimes against Palestinian prisoners holding Israel responsible for their lives.
In a press statement on the anniversary of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Day on Monday the Movement said that the issue of Palestinian prisoners is a top priority for the Movement stressing that it will work towards releasing them by all means possible.
