Red Cross appealed to end arbitrary sanctions on Palestinian prisoners

Thursday 20-April-2023

The Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies called on human rights and humanitarian institutions led by the Red Cross to intervene and put pressure on the Israeli authorities to stop the arbitrary measures and sanctions against Palestinian prisoners on the eve of Eid al-Fitr.

Head of the center Riyad Al-Ashqar said that tension is still high in Israeli prisons as the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) is still manipulating in implementation of the March 22 agreement that suspended the prisoners’ collective hunger strike.

During the Eid holiday the IPS used to impose a series of punitive measures against the prisoners preventing them from celebrating the joy of Eid.

This includes isolating some prisoners preventing their family visits and preventing Eid prayers.

The Palestine Center called on all international organizations led by the Red Cross to check on the prisoners’ conditions during the Eid holiday.

The center further called on the Palestinian people and the national and Islamic factions to visit the prisoners’ families during the Eid.
