Israel demolishes al-Araqib Bedouin village for the 216th time

Monday 1-May-2023

The Israeli authorities on Monday morning demolished the unrecognized Palestinian Bedouin village of al-Araqib in the Naqab desert in southern 1948 Occupied Palestine for the 216th time since 2010.

According to local sources Israeli bulldozers demolished the tents and tin structures in al-Araqib village after the Israeli police surrounded it attacking the Bedouins and forcing them to leave their houses.

For his part Mahmoud Ghayyad spokesman for Bedouin communities in the Gaza Strip condemned the demolition of the village which comes as part of the Israeli plans to displace the Palestinians from the area.

Ghayyad called on Palestinian activists and human rights organizations to stand in solidarity with the residents of the village who are in constant risk of forcible expulsion.

Al-Araqib village one of 45 unrecognized villages in the Naqab shelters 22 families comprising 800 Palestinian civilians who live on livestock farming and desert agriculture.

However the Bedouins proved in the 1970s their ownership of 1250 dunums of land in the area but the Israeli authorities refuse to accept them and are working to evict them from their land.
