The Israeli occupation police conditionally released Sheikh Ekrima Sabri head of the Higher Islamic Council in Occupied Jerusalem and an Aqsa Mosque preacher after interrogating him for several hours on Monday.
His lawyer Khaled Zabarqa said that the Israeli police released Sheikh Sabri after detaining and questioning him for over four hours at the Moskobiya detention center in Occupied Jerusalem.
Zabarqa added that the Israeli police ordered Sheikh Sabri before releasing him to appear for interrogation at the Moskobiya center if they asked him to come again. He was also ordered to stop dealing with three TV satellite channels al-Aqsa al-Manar and al-Mayadeen he added.
Sheikh Sabri has been the target of a systematic incitement campaign by Israeli media and right-wing Jewish groups for long years.
Because of his supportive positions on Occupied Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque he had been summoned arrested and interrogated by the Israeli occupation police several times before. The police also banned his entry to the Aqsa Mosque and his travel abroad many times.
In a related context the Hamas Movement denounced the Israeli occupation police for detaining and interrogating Sheikh Sabri for long hours and imposing restrictions on him including a ban on his communication with certain satellite channels.
In a statement Hamas expressed its full solidarity with Sheikh Sabri affirming that the Israeli repressive practices against him would be doomed to failure.
