The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has said that two female prisoners Fatima Shaheen and Itaf Jaradat are facing harsh incarceration conditions in Ramla jail.
In a statement on Sunday the commission said that prisoner Jaradat is being held as a caregiver with Shaheen who suffers from serious bullet injuries and cannot move.
Lawyer Fawwaz Shaloudi from the commission said that prisoner Shaheen suffers from paralysis because of serious wounds in her spine and abdomen which she sustained last April when Israeli soldiers opened fire at her before her detention.
He affirmed that Shaheen suffers from severe pains as a result of a swelling in the wounded area of her body adding that such pains keep her awake all night.
The prison administration also deprives Shaheen of receiving visits from her relatives or talking with them over the phone according to the lawyer.
Shaheen and her companion Jaradat are being detained in a small and windowless cell with only one bed. This bed has been provided only for Shaheen while prisoner Jaradat has to sleep every day in a chair like those allocated for caregivers in hospitals.
Since her detention in the same cell with prisoner Shaheen Jaradat has also been denied family visits.
