The Hamas Movement has condemned the Israeli occupation state for passing legislation allowing Israeli courts to hand prison sentences to Palestinian children under the age of 14 as “another flagrant violation of children’s rights and the international resolutions calling for protecting them.”
“The occupation entity’s disregard for the system of human and UN values is persistent the latest of which is the initial approval of legislation that allows the arrest and trial of Palestinian children from the age of 12 and deprives them of any rights that take into account their age and needs” Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasem said in press remarks on Thursday.
Qasem accused the Israeli occupation state of brutalizing Palestinian children and abusing them physically and psychologically during and after their detention calling for international action to curb Israel’s violations and practices against Palestinian children.
The Israeli Knesset voted in favor of a bill on Wednesday that would allow Israeli courts to issue prison sentences against minors under the age of 14 if they are convicted of carrying out or being involved in operations against Israelis.
