290 administrative detention orders against Palestinians in June

Saturday 8-July-2023

Israeli courts issued 290 administrative detention orders against Palestinian citizens last month 146 of which are new orders.

In a press statement on Saturday the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said that 90 percent of Palestinian administrative detainees are ex-prisoners who spent many years in Israeli prisons.

The Commission stressed that the continued Israeli policy of administrative detention comes as part of executing the orders of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir who had announced that pursuing Palestinian ex-prisoners is one of his major tasks.

The administrative detention orders of Palestinian prisoners are usually extended for three months six months or a whole year.

Administrative detention which is a crime against international law is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against the Palestinians solely at the pretext that a person plans to commit a future offense.
