Prisoner Omar Kumeil on hunger strike for 18 days

Sunday 30-July-2023

The Palestinian prisoner Omar Kumeil on Sunday entered day 18 of his hunger strike in protest at his administrative detention.

The Palestinian Prisoners&rsquo Society (PPS) said in a press statement that prisoner Kumeil has been detained since last March adding that he was issued an administrative detention order for six months.

The PPS warned that Israel is escalating its policy of administrative detention against Palestinian citizens including women and children adding that about 60 detainees continue to boycott the Israeli courts in protest at the policy of administrative detention.

Earlier this year Kumeil went on a hunger strike following the death of prisoner Khader Adnan in Israeli jails due to the Israeli policy of medical neglect.

Kumeil 50 from Qabatiya town in the Jenin governorate is the father of martyr Mahmoud who was killed by Israeli forces in Jerusalem in 2020.
