Comprehensive plan announced to protest administrative detention

Thursday 3-August-2023

The administrative detainees committee has announced that Palestinian prisoners from all factions will escalate their protest steps as part of a comprehensive plan in response to the Israeli policy of administrative detention.

In a press statement on Thursday the committee said that the protest steps will start in Ofer prison and then escalate to other prisons adding that the steps will include open disobedience returning medicines and boycotting prison clinics.

&ldquoA group of administrative detainees in Ofer are going to march to confinement cells today&rdquo the committee said adding that the step will be followed by marching in the prison courtyards and then starting an open-ended mass hunger strike.

The committee reiterated its rejection of the crime of administrative detention calling on the concerned organizations to support administrative detainees in their protest steps.

The number of administrative detainees in Israeli jails has increased to 1132 detainees including three women and eighteen children.

80 percent of the Palestinian administrative detainees are ex-detainees who had been placed under administrative detention many times.

Administrative detention which is a crime against international law is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against the Palestinians solely at the pretext that a person plans to commit a future offense.
