Thursday 3-August-2023

Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya talked over the phone with Speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri on Wednesday and discussed with him the unfortunate events in Ein al-Hilweh refugee camp in southern Lebanon.

According to a statement by the Hamas Movement Haneyya asked Berri to intervene positively to stop the ongoing armed clashes and help bring the situation back to normal in the camp.

Haneyya also reiterated his Movement’s Keenness on maintaining security and stability in all the Palestinian refugee camps and keep them as springboards for the Palestinian people’s return to their homeland.

The Hamas leader highlighted the need for the warring parties to respect the joint Palestinian and Lebanese decisions that called for giving an opportunity for the fact-finding committee and the official authorities in Lebanon to investigate the crimes that were committed in the camp and avoiding the use of armed force to solve problems.

For his part Berri expressed his concern for the security and stability of the Palestinian camps and stressed the importance of resolving any dispute through dialog and understanding.

He also pledged to make efforts to calm the situation in the camp in cooperation with the official Palestinian parties.

In a related context Haneyya phoned Palestinian ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Dabour on the same day and discussed with him the events in Ein al-Hilweh camp.

The Hamas leader also sent a letter to Hezbollah chief Hasan Nasrallah to urge him to make efforts to stop the violent events in the camp.
