Five Palestinian prisoners are engaged in an open hunger strike in protest against their administrative detention in Israeli jails.
The striking prisoners are: Saif Qassem Hamdan Osama Maher Khalil Qusay Jamal Khader Saleh Raafat Rabia and Kayed al-Fasfous.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said that the Israeli Prison Service (IPA) transferred Hamdan Khalil Khader and Rabaya to Nafha prison shortly after they declared their hunger strike on July 30.
Hamdan 29 has been detained since 10/4/2022 while Rabia 22 has been detained since 2/8/2023.
Khader 25 was detained on December 14 2022 and was previously imprisoned in Israeli jails for 14 months before being rearrested soon after his release. Khalil 23 has been detained since May 17 2022.
Along the same line Fasfous 34 continues his hunger strike for the second day.
Administrative detention is ordered by the Israeli military commander and grounded on a “secret file.” Under administrative detention policy a prisoner is held without charge or trial for up to 6 months which can be renewed.
There are currently 4900 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails including 1200 administrative detainees.
