Amid growing tension Ben Gvir visits Negev jail

Israeli far-right security minister Itamar Ben Gvir visited on Monday the Negev prison amid an atmosphere of growing tension in the facility as a result of recent repressive measures and arbitrary transfers that targeted prisoners.

According to Palestinian news reports the prisoners in the Negev prison refused to go through the daily security inspection in protest at the recent mass transfer of prisoners from the jail.

Meanwhile the committee representing the Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli jails announced today a number of protest steps including holding rallies in prison yards and refusing to take meals deal with infirmaries and take medication.

In a statement the committee said that more internees could boycott Israeli courts as part of the campaign that was launched last year by over 100 detainees in protest at the Israeli administrative detention policy.

In a related context 13 Palestinian administrative detainees have been on hunger strike for several days in protest at their illegal detention with no indictment or trial.

Four of the hunger-striking detainees Saif Hamdan Osama Khalil Qusay Khader and Saleh Rabay&rsquoah entered on Monday day 16 of their hunger strike.

Two other prisoners Kayed al-Fasfous and Sultan Khallouf started their hunger strike 12 days ago while another administrative detainee called Osama Daqrouq started his hunger strike eight days ago PPS said.

Another group of six administrative detainees in Ramon jail joined the hunger strike last Thursday.
