A Palestinian man from the Shuafat refugee camp was beaten up by Israeli police forces who then seared the Star of David on his cheek.
The Palestinian man Orwa Sheikh Ali was arrested four days ago before being released on Sunday.
The officers blindfolded the man and proceeded to beat him with their fists on all parts of his body.
Orwa’s cheek was then branded with the Jewish Star of David symbol.
The Israeli police denied the incident and alleged that the man &ldquoresisted arrest violently attacking and kicking police who responded with &lsquoreasonable force&rsquo to subdue him&rdquo.
&ldquoDue to his actions the police officers had to use reasonable force until the arrest procedure was completed. As part of the investigation the suspect’s detention was extended by the court until August 20. As far as allegations are made regarding this or that conduct it is appropriate that these should be examined by the relevant authorities&rdquo the police statement claimed.
Israel is currently holding more than 5000 Palestinian political prisoners according to figures published by the rights group Addameer.
At least 1200 of them are held without charge or trial in a widely criticized practice known as administrative detention.
Israeli forces often conduct near-daily pre-dawn raids into the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem in an attempt to arrest “wanted Palestinians”.
