Jerusalemite schools threaten to strike if IOA imposes its curricula

Wednesday 23-August-2023

Jerusalemite schools have announced their categorical rejection of the Israeli curriculums affirming that they will continue to use Palestinian textbooks.

This came during a meeting attended on Wednesday by representatives from the Parents&rsquo Union in Jerusalem and the schools of al-Iman Ibrahimieh Dar al-Hikma and al-Furqan.

The participants threatened to stage an open-ended strike if the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) tried to impose Israeli curriculums on Palestinian schools in Jerusalem.

Last Friday Sheikh Ekrima Sabri head of the Higher Islamic Council in Occupied Jerusalem said that the teaching of Israeli curriculums in Palestinian schools is not permissible according to the Islamic Sharia (religious law).

Addressing the Muslim congregation during his Friday Khutba (sermon) at the Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Sabri underlined that every people in the world have their own religion beliefs culture civilization customs and peculiarities and have the right to set the curricula that suit them.

He urged the Jerusalemite parents to pay attention to the curriculums their children receive in their schools and insist on using the current textbooks stressing that their children are a huge responsibility resting on their shoulders.

He also reiterated the Higher Islamic Authority’s fatwa that forbids any Palestinian participation in the Israeli municipal elections in Jerusalem.
