The Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir reduced the number of family visits to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails as part of his punishment measures.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper family visits to Palestinian prisoners from the West Bank will be limited to once every two months instead of once a month starting next Sunday.
Ben Gvir’s decision was strongly opposed by Prison Administration Commissioner Katy Perry who warned of dangerous consequences in the Palestinian street given the importance of the prisoners’ issue.
Earlier this week Ben-Gvir revoked a policy allowing for the early release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.
Ben-Gvir made an amendment to the law concerning the administrative release of Palestinian prisoners which permitted the early release of detainees due to a lack of space in Israeli prisons.
