Israeli warplanes fired a number of missiles at the Syrian coastal city of Tartus on Wednesday evening killing two soldiers and wounding six others in addition to inflicting material damage according to Syrian sources.
The Russian news agency Sputnik reported that Syrian air defenses intercepted most of those missiles before reaching their destination in rural Tartus.
It quoted an unidentified Syrian security source as saying that the Israeli warplanes were flying over the Mediterranean and from there fired a number of missiles at the western Syrian city’s countryside.
Israel regularly carries out air strikes and missile attacks on Syrian targets without officially declaring responsibility for those attacks. However it only repeatedly said that it would not allow Iran to consolidate its military presence in Syria.
