UNRWA said on Sunday that nearly 74000 Palestinian civilians in Gaza were displaced and taking shelter in 64 schools and facilities belonging to it.
In a press release UNWRA warned that these numbers are &ldquolikely to increase as heavy shelling and airstrikes continue including on civilian areas.&rdquo
UNRWA said that one of its schools sheltering displaced families in Gaza was directly hit on Sunday.
&ldquoThe school sheltering more than 225 people was severely damaged. No casualties were recorded among the displaced&rdquo it explained.
The refugee agency also said that its &ldquoteams are providing families with shelter and clean water&rdquo and that &ldquosupplies are being prepared to deliver to families including food hygiene kits and cleaning supplies.&rdquo
It called for protecting civilians at all times including during fighting and announced its support for &ldquocalls to reach an immediate ceasefire and a halt to the violence everywhere.&rdquo
&ldquoSchools and other civilian infrastructure including those sheltering displaced families must never come under attack&rdquo it emphasized.
