Brazil which assumed the UN Security Council’s rotating presidency has called for an urgent Council meeting amid the continuing violent Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip.
The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that its country called for an urgent meeting of the Council tomorrow Friday.
Meanwhile Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira interrupted an Asia trip to travel to New York to participate in the meeting.
Earlier on Wednesday Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called for a ceasefire and an &ldquointernational humanitarian intervention in the conflict in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories&rdquo so that human right violations can be put to an end.
&ldquoAn international humanitarian intervention is urgently needed&rdquo Lula wrote on social media platform X formerly known as Twitter adding that Brazil would join efforts to bring the conflict to an immediate and definitive end.
Israel has announced a total blockade including a ban on food water fuel and electricity supplies on the Gaza Strip where more than 2200000 people live.
