The French MP David Guiraud said that “Neither Palestinians nor Hamas uses civilians as human shields. Rather Israel does”.
The representative of the Proud France party MP David Guiraud said that “no member of Hamas was convicted of using a human shield while there were Israeli soldiers who were convicted of using a 9-year-old Palestinian child as a human shield when they asked him to open a parcel bomb with the possibility of it exploding in his face and with weapons pointed at him” The newspaper “Liberation” reported.
On social media many Internet users reacted denouncing what they considered a “dangerous slander” causing the newspaper’s news verification department to point out that Giroux was referring to “publications on this subject issued by Doctors Without Borders and the Israeli organization B’Tselem a non-governmental organization that records cases of human rights violations in the occupied territories.”
The newspaper however referred to an article on the Israeli B’Tselem website dated 2017 which confirms the use of human shields by Israeli forces. In 2002 the organization participated among other human rights organizations in submitting a request to the Supreme Court of Justice in Israel against this practice especially in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
