The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza announced in a statement on Friday that 34 journalists have been killed and dozens have been injured since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. Around 50 media institutions have also been bombed.
The statement condemned the Israeli ongoing aggression and its heinous crimes and massacres committed against civilians in general and pressmen in particular as their inhabited houses and press institutions have been relentlessly bombed without holding Israel accountable by international and Arab organizations.
It demanded immediate halt of the Israeli aggression on Gaza and called for the protection of pressmen and media institutions in Palestine pointing out that attacking journalists proves the Israeli blatant disregard for the UN Security Council Resolution 2222 which provides for the protection of journalists in areas of armed conflict.
The GMO reiterated that Israel’s escape of punishment has given it the green light to continue committing war crimes against Palestinians.
It also called on the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and international human rights institutions to investigate the Israeli crimes carried out against the freedom of media in Palestine and to bring perpetrators and all those involved to justice as the only way to put an end to Israeli criminality.
Below is the list of the Palestinian casualties due to the Israeli aggression that attacked journalists and media institutions as documented by the GMO:
Martyrs: 32
Injuries: Dozens
Completely/partially damaged houses of journalists: 39
Missing: 2
Damaged media institutions: 50
