The UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted on Friday the Jordanian resolution calling for an “immediate durable and sustained humanitarian truce” in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
The UNGA adopted Jordan’s resolution put on behalf of the Arab Group with 120 votes in favor 14 against and 45 abstentions.
The resolution demands all parties comply with international humanitarian law and “continuous sufficient and unhindered” provision of essential supplies and services for the civilians in the Gaza Strip according to a statement released on the UN website.
It also urged the protection of humanitarian personnel wounded persons and humanitarian facilities and assets.
Furthermore the resolution called for rescinding of the order by Israel “the occupying power” for Palestinian civilians UN staff and humanitarian workers to evacuate all areas in the Gaza Strip north of Wadi Gaza and relocate to the south.
It also reaffirmed that a “just and lasting solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be achieved by peaceful means based on the relevant UN resolutions and in accordance with international law and on the basis of the two-State solution.
The UN statement indicated that the resolution marks the first formal response of the UN to the hostilities since October 7 after the Security Council failed on four occasions to reach consensus on any action.
