Hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters staged a rush-hour sit-in at the fourth-busiest station in Britain London’s Liverpool Street on Tuesday evening.
Palestine flags littered the crowd and the hundreds sat on the floor of the bustling station chanting “Free Palestine”.
The protesters called for a ceasefire in the Israeli war that has seen nearly 10000 people killed in Gaza. People can be heard chanting: “What do we want? Ceasefire. When do we want it? Now.”
The group staging the movement is SOAS Detainee Support (SDS) and Sisters Uncut who declared the planned campaign earlier today.
The SDS group said on X formerly Twitter: “Hundreds are packing out the station – get down here now and show your solidarity.”
In a statement on X Sisters Uncut said: “Hundreds of commuters have joined our sit-in at Liverpool Street station to demand an end to the siege on Gaza. Ceasefire Now! End the occupation. Join Us. We are many.”
Sisters Uncut added: “There will be no business as usual until genocide ends; we are shutting down Liverpool Street station. Join us.”
In response to the demonstration MP Claudia Webbe posted a video from the station with the caption: “We cannot be silent or silenced. This is Liverpool Street Station London.”
This comes as an Israeli strike on a Gaza refugee camp killed and injured more than 400 people.
