Thousands of protesters gathered on Saturday afternoon outside the parliamentary building in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, calling for a permanent ceasefire in the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and for the Canadian government to take a firmer stance on the conflict.
The pro-Gaza protest in Ottawa was one of the largest pro-Palestine rallies organized in Canada since the war broke out following Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7.
Protesters from across the country rallied on Parliament Hill while carrying signs and flags and chanting pro-Palestine slogans. They later marched through parts of the city’s downtown.
The protest comes two days after a parliamentary petition urged premier Justin Trudeau to demand a ceasefire. The government now has 45 days to respond, according to the Canadian media.
