The Hamas Movement has applauded the investigative report that was released by the French newspaper “Le Monde,” which refuted the Israeli occupation army’s claim that accused its armed wing (al-Qassam Brigades) of using Al-Shifa Hospital as a command and control center.
In press remarks on Sunday, senior Hamas official Ezzat al-Resheq said that Le Monde’s report joined other international professional investigations that had already exposed the Israeli army’s lies against Hamas and its misleading propaganda that aimed to justify its genocidal war against the civilians in Gaza and its destruction of medical facilities.
Resheq called on the International Criminal Court and other competent courts to hold the Israeli occupation regime and its war criminals accountable for the atrocities they had committed against the Palestinians in Gaza.
Le Monde recently analyzed a number of videos broadcast by the Israeli army about Al-Shifa Hospital and its premises, saying that the footage showed the presence of a built tunnel, but this structure did not have the size to make it a large operational center of Hamas, as claimed by the Israeli army.
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) occupied Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza in mid-November while insisting on its claim that the premises serve as a significant operational command center for Hamas. Videos released by the IOF, supposedly showcasing an extensive underground Hamas operational center beneath the hospital, have been subjected to scrutiny and analysis by Le Monde, using raw sequences from these videos.
The videos released by the Israeli army depicted a spokesperson walking through a tunnel, approximately 130 meters long, featuring a kitchen, toilets, and a small empty room. The army circulated these images in a bid to demonstrate the existence of a comprehensive Hamas operational center beneath Al-Shifa hospital. However, Le Monde’s video investigation unit has disputed these claims.
Le Monde’s investigators reconstructed the tunnel’s layout from unedited sequences of the IOF videos. Their findings have revealed a stark contrast to the IOF’s narrative.
According to Le Monde, the tunnel’s features do not correspond to that of a significant operational and strategic center or a large cache of weapons.
