The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has said that the Palestinian female detainees in Damon jail, especially those who were kidnaped from the Gaza Strip, are facing very difficult incarceration conditions and severe punitive measures.

According to the Commission, whose lawyer visited the jail recently, the harsh detention conditions and measures the female detainees suffer from in Damon jail have been getting worse every day since October 7.

In recent months, the Israeli occupation forces have launched a large-scale arrest campaign against Palestinian women in the West Bank, Jerusalem, Gaza, and 1948 occupied Palestine.

All the female detainees who were kidnaped during the recent campaign have been exposed to torture and physical and verbal abuse and deprived of their most basic rights since the first day of their detention, the Commission’s lawyer said.

“An elderly woman, aged 80 from Gaza, arrived a few days ago at our section of the jail, walking with a crutch and without a scarf over her head. Her body and clothes were full of blood, and she seemed to know nothing. She may suffer from Alzheimer’s disease,” one of the detainees told the lawyer.

According to the lawyer, the Damon jailers took the clothes of the female detainees from Gaza and gave them summer garments.

The Gazan women were also exposed to non-stop severe beating and verbal abuse, and some of them were left for seven days outdoors in the rain and cold, female detainees told the lawyer.

All the female detainees from Gaza arrived at the jail in miserable condition, physically and psychologically, according to the lawyer.

The Gazan women in Damon jail are also being held incommunicado and isolated from other Palestinian female detainees, the lawyer reported.
