Former Israeli chief of staff Dan Halutz said on Tuesday that the Israeli government lost its war against Hamas without achieving its declared goals.
According to Israel’s Channel 14, Halutz made his remarks during his meeting last week in Haifa with activists rallying against the Israeli government.
The ex-chief of staff of the Israeli military stressed that the sole victory to be achieved in this war would be the ousting of premier Benjamin Netanyahu. “For me, the picture of victory will be when Prime Minister Netanyahu steps down.”
“Operation Iron Swords will not produce an image of victory, but only an image of defeat,” Halutz said.
He warned that a “civil war” could break out and lead to bloodshed because of Itamar Ben Gvir’s armed brigades and stressed the need to get prepared for a difficult battle against political rivals.
He said that Ben Gvir’s brigades have weapons and may open fire at protesters and opponents.
