Turkish media announced on Tuesday that Turkish police arrested 33 people based in the country for spying on behalf of Israel.
The Anadolu agency reported that Turkish Police has detained the individuals in Istanbul and seven other provinces on charges of “carrying out international espionage activities” on behalf of the Israeli foreign intelligence service, Mossad.
The news agency pointed out that Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office said that the police uncovered a network of individuals who intended to carry out reconnaissance, pursuit, assault, and kidnapping operations against foreign nationals in Türkiye.
However, the most recent arrests followed leaked comments by Ronen Bar, the head of Israel’s domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet, who released a voice recording last month announcing that Israel is determined to kill Hamas leaders “in every location”, especially Qatar and Türkiye.
The head of the Shin Bet spoke about the intention to take revenge on Al-Aqsa Flood operation, calling the assassinations they intended to carry out as “Our Munich”, referring to the Israeli assassination of those who planned the detention of the Israeli Olympic team in Munich in the 1980s, resulting in the killing of all team members.
Turkish media sources said that Ankara warned of “grave consequences” of any steps against the Palestinian leaders in Türkiye.
