Lebanon filed a complaint with the UN Security Council over Israel’s assassination of Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Aruri in the capital city of Beirut, calling it the “most dangerous phase” of Israeli attacks on the country.

The complaint, filed on January 4, underlined that Israel used six missiles in the attack that killed Aruri and added that Israel uses Lebanese airspace to bomb Syria.

On Tuesday evening, Hamas Movement mourned the deputy head of its political bureau, Sheikh Saleh Al-Aruri, who was assassinated along with six of the Movement’s members in Lebanon.

The Israeli occupation army escalated the alert on the Lebanese borders hours after Al-Aruri’s assassination. The Israeli website “Wala” quoted a senior Israeli official as saying that “Israel is getting prepared for a sharp response to the assassination from Hezbollah.”

The Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, considered the assassination of Al-Aruri, “a major and dangerous violation,” reiterating his pledge that “a response will inevitably come.”

Nasrallah added, in a televised speech on Friday, the second in a few days, that Hezbollah cannot remain silent regarding a violation of this level, stressing that failure to respond leaves all of Lebanon vulnerable.

He pointed out that the Hezbollah fighters have carried out about 670 military operations on the Lebanese border with Israel since last October 8, one day following Al-Aqsa Flood operation.

Nasrallah said that his party has destroyed “a large number of Israeli vehicles and tanks,” stressing that “the [Israeli] enemy does not acknowledge fatalities or injuries in its ranks, which is part of the Israeli policy of secrecy when it comes to its losses.”
