Scottish Prime Minister Humza Yousaf condemned Israeli ministers for calling for the resettlement of the population of Gaza, describing such statements as being tantamount to ‘ethnic cleansing’.

In a TV interview on Friday, Yousaf said, “In the last week, we have heard statements from senior ministers in Netanyahu’s government, the finance minister, and the national security minister, calling for the resettlement of the Gazan population out of Gaza, and for Israeli settlements to be reestablished in Gaza.”

“We are seeing not only a humanitarian crisis, but we’re now seeing senior members of the Netanyahu government making statements that are frankly the textbook definition of ethnic cleansing, and should be condemned in the strongest possible manner,” he added.

Yousaf called on UK ministers to use their influence as a key ally of Israel to push for an end to hostilities. He denounced the Israeli massacres in Gaza, the latest of which was carried out in Jabaliya in northern Gaza, leading to the killing and wounding of hundreds of civilians.

The first minister stated that the UK government should make clear that Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and military commanders, must be held accountable for the deaths of civilians if the country does not “immediately cease indiscriminate attacks” in Gaza.
