Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance group said on Monday that Wissam Tawil, one of its top field commanders, was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike in the south of Lebanon.
In a statement, Hezbollah mourned commander Tawil, from the town of Khirbet Selm in southern Lebanon, saying he was “martyred on the path to Jerusalem.”
Tawil was killed in an Israeli aerial attack on his car in the southern village of Khirbet Selm, which lies around 15 kilometers away from the border. He had a leading role in managing Hezbollah’s operations in the south.
Earlier on Monday, Hezbollah said it bombed the Israeli army posts of Ruwaisat el-Alam and Hadb al-Bustan in the north of the occupied Palestinian territories in response to Israeli attacks on different border areas in southern Lebanon.
