The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that at least 21 of its officers and soldiers were killed in fierce battles in Central Gaza.

Military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the soldiers were killed when a rocket-propelled grenade fired by Hamas hit a tank near two buildings the soldiers were in near Kissufim in Central Gaza.

“We have allowed the release of ten names so far, and we will publish the names of the rest in the coming hours”, Hagari added.

He also acknowledged that the military is engaging in fierce battles in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

This announcement comes hours after the spokesman for the so-called “Israeli Rescue Service” admitted the killing and wounding of 22 soldiers in Khan Younis.

Israeli sources previously confirmed the killing and wounding of about 20 officers and soldiers in bombing of two buildings and the collapse of a third.

On Monday, the Israeli military admitted the killing of 3 of its officers in Khan Yunis, which brings the number of the officially acknowledged officers and soldiers who were killed in Gaza to 24 in the past 12 hours.

The resistance however affirms that the number of the Israeli deaths is much higher than the announced.
