Hamas Movement on Friday welcomed the decisions made by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and called on the international community “to oblige Israel to implement the ICJ’s decisions and stop the crime of genocide in Gaza.”

Hamas said in a statement that it welcomes ICJ’s decisions which have proven the accusation against Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.

Hamas appreciated the ICJ’s ruling for demanding Israel to protect civilians, lift the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, and fulfil its duties as an occupying power as stipulated in the international and humanitarian international laws.

Hamas said, “The decision means halting all forms of aggression against our people in Gaza. We look forward to the ICJ’s final decisions that should convict Israel of committing genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.”

“The decision paves the way to hold Israeli occupation leaders accountable for committing these crimes before the ICJ. It also acknowledged the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination, establishing their independent state, and returning to their land and homes from which they were forcefully displaced, in line with related international resolutions”, Hamas added.

The Movement hailed “the genuine position of the Republic of South Africa, its support for the Palestinian people and the justice of their cause, its sincere endeavor to repel the aggression against the Gaza Strip, and its rejection of the Israeli heinous crimes.”

Hamas also thanked all countries that expressed their support for this noble humanitarian move.

Earlier on Friday, the ICJ ruled that Israel must take measures to prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip and improve the humanitarian situation in the costal enclave.

In its ruling, the ICJ rejected Israel’s request to dismiss the lawsuit brought by South Africa and acknowledged the right of the Palestinians in Gaza to be protected from acts of genocide, affirming that the conditions are met to impose provisional measures on Israel.
