Gaza Municipality launched a distress call on Friday, warning against “a high risk of flooding from Sheikh Radwan Pool” in Gaza City.

“Weeks after the appeals made about the risk of flooding from Sheikh Radwan pond which has been filled with rainwater mixed with sewage, we trigger alarm, announcing concerns over the pond’s rising water levels. Imminent overflow threatens to submerge hundreds of homes in sewage as the pond has actually started overflowing,” the municipality said in a statement.

“This is added to the Israeli occupation’s destruction of most electricity generators, fuel tanks, and electrical cables, and the destruction of the main conveyor line. This has made water level reduction impossible and puts the lives of Palestinian citizens at risk,” it elaborated.

The municipality called for “immediate urgent intervention to provide necessary fuel, materials, and equipment to maintain the lines,” noting that they “need more than 200 meters of pipes with special specifications unavailable in the local market.”

The municipality indicated that “it has found itself unable to reduce the water level,” calling on the United Nations, its institutions, and all international organizations to “intervene in order to save the lives of Palestinian citizens who are exhausted by the war and cannot bear any other risks.”

Since October 7, Israeli occupation army has been waging a bloody aggression on the Gaza Strip, with the US and European support, resulting in the killing of 27,131 martyrs and the injury of 66,287 people, in addition to the displacement of more than 85 percent (about 1.9 million people) of the Strip’s population.
