The Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB) announced the launch of the Global Day of Solidarity with the people of Gaza, which is the second in 2024.
Demonstrations are expected to be launched in more than 100 cities around the globe on Saturday, February 17.
“This international initiative aims to shed light on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and defend the freedom and rights of Palestinians”, the PFB said in a press statement on Wednesday.
The first Global Day of Action for Gaza was organized on January 13 with widespread public participation in more than 120 cities in about 45 countries.
PFB Vice President Adnan Hmaidan said, “Calling for the second Global Day in less than two months to stop the genocide in Gaza is extremely significant.”
He emphasized the global popular rejection of the genocide in Gaza and the calls to accelerate the International Court’s measures to reach a ceasefire, hold war criminals accountable, and “to pressure our governments to take immediate action to prevent Israel from committing more crimes in violation of the international conventions.”
The Forum noted that the situation in Gaza has reached “a critical point, with more than 30,000 civilians killed amid continued blockade that severely restricts access to basic goods, including food, medicine, and clean water.”
“The Palestinian people in Gaza face unimaginable difficulties, with limited access to health care and education, and widespread unemployment,” the PFB added.
The Forum urged “individuals, organizations and governments to respond to this call for global demonstrations aimed at confirming the widespread condemnation of the genocide in Gaza.”
The director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in Britain, Ben Jamal, announced during a protest demonstration against the Israeli occupation in London last Saturday that February 17 will be the second global “Day of Action” for Gaza.
He added that people in more than 100 cities in the United Kingdom and about 60 countries around the world will hold marches to express solidarity with Palestine and demand a ceasefire on Feb. 17.
This comes in light of the continuation of demonstrations and events in support of the Palestinian people across many capitals of the world, in protest against the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip that has been ongoing since October 7 of last year.
