Hamas calls for int’l action to prevent Israeli massacre at Nasser Hospital

Thursday 15-February-2024

The Hamas Movement has warned of what it described as “the catastrophic humanitarian situation” at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, which is under ongoing Israeli attack and siege.

In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas said that the civilians inside the besieged hospital do not have the minimum requirements for life, including medicines and foodstuffs, adding that several people inside the hospital had been killed by Israel sniper and drone fire.

Hamas called on the UN and all relevant parties to take immediate and urgent action to prevent the Israeli occupation army from storming the hospital and committing a horrific massacre against the displaced citizens, patients and medical crews, affirming that the people inside the facility have nowhere else to go.

The Movement called on the Red Cross and the World Health Organization to necessarily shoulder their humanitarian responsibilities and urgently move to provide the hospital with food, water and medical supplies to save those inside it.

In the same context, spokesman for the health ministry Ashraf al-Qudra described the situation inside the Nasser Hospital as “extremely tragic and disturbing” as the Israeli army continues to order the remaining displaced people inside it to leave the facility.

Spokesman Qudra affirmed that more than 1,500 displaced people are still inside the hospital, alongside 190 staff and 273 patients who cannot move.

Qudra underlined that there are 18 babies in intensive care, three babies in incubators and 35 dialysis patients at Nasser Hospital.

According to him, sewage water has flooded the hospital’s emergency room and piles of garbage and medical waste have built up in the hospital’s hallways and courtyards, which raises the risk of disease.

The hospital has already run out of food, fuel for power generators and other essential supplies after having been under siege for weeks.
