The lawyer of Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa, who suffers from cancer, revealed that the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) has canceled the visit scheduled for today, Thursday, due to his transfer to Assaf Harofeh Hospital in Ramla after his health deterioration.

The Israeli Supreme Court earlier refused to release him on November 20, 2023 for health reasons despite his critical health condition, and continues to deprive his family of visiting him for more than four months.

Walid Daqqa, 62, suffers from chronic lung disease and bone marrow cancer, and the clinic at Israel’s Ayalon Prison is ill-equipped to deal with his condition.

Following his cancer diagnosis, the IPS denied Walid Daqqa access to a potentially life-saving bone marrow transplant by refusing to transfer him to a civilian hospital.

Prisoner Daqqa was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces in 1986 for allegedly being involved in the killing of an Israeli soldier and was sentenced to 37 years in prison, which he completed in March 2023. However, he is currently serving a separate two-year sentence over allegations of smuggling cell phones into prison. He is now due for release in March 2025, a date he may not live to see.
