The Palestinian Ministry of Education revealed that 5,424 students have been martyred and 9,193 injured since the start of the Israeli aggression on October 7 last year on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The Ministry explained in a statement on Tuesday that the number of students who have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the aggression reached more than 5,379, while the number of the injured mounted to 8,888, adding that the number of student martyrs in the West Bank reached 48 students, and the number of injured reached 305, in addition to 97 others arrested.
Among teachers and administrators, 255 were martyred and 891 others were injured in the Gaza Strip, while in the West Bank 6 were injured, and more than 73 were arrested.
The Ministry’s statement indicated that 286 governmental schools and 65 others affiliated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) were bombed and vandalized in the Gaza Strip. Some 111 schools were severely damaged, and 40 completely destroyed.
Meanwhile, 57 schools in the West Bank were stormed and vandalized, and 133 governmental schools in the Gaza Strip were used as shelter centers.
The statement confirmed that 620,000 students in the Gaza Strip have been deprived of enrolment in schools since the beginning of the Israeli aggression, while most of students are suffering from psychological trauma and difficult health conditions.
