The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described on Saturday the extent of destruction surrounding Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip which has been targeted by Israeli attacks as “beyond words”.
“After more than a month, WHO and partners managed to access Al-Shifa hospital in northern Gaza to deliver 19,000 liters of fuel”, Ghebreyesus wrote on X.
Ghebreyesus said that the delivery included treatments for 50 children suffering from acute malnutrition, and lifesaving medical supplies for 150 patients.
“Over 240 patients are being served by a large number of volunteer health workers. Services are very limited due to a lack of medical supplies, fuel, water and food,” he added.
He said, “The level of destruction surrounding the hospital is beyond words,” reiterating his call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of civilian victims, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure.
