Israeli occupation forces (IOF) raided Nour Shams refugee camp east of the city of Tulkarem on Sunday causing significant damage to the camp’s infrastructure and properties of residents.
Many Israeli military vehicles had invaded the city of Tulkarem from its western axis, passing through Khodairy and Al-Alimi intersections reaching Nour Shams camp. This was accompanied by clashes between the youth and the IOF soldiers amid heavy gunfire, without any reported injuries or arrests among the residents.
The IOF used five heavy military bulldozers to destroy the camp’s streets, especially the section of Nablus Street adjacent to the main entrance of the camp, where they created deep trenches.
A source in the Popular Services Committee in the camp informed WAFA news agency that the destruction affected the main street adjacent to the camp’s entrance, in addition to the destruction of commercial stores, smashing their doors, walls, and glass facades. The IOF bulldozers also destroyed the infrastructure in the schools’ square street in the middle of the camp, as well as the cemetery street, and sewage, water, and internet lines.
The same source pointed out that the IOF destroyed what had recently been repaired of internal and main roads and infrastructure, which had been destroyed in previous incursions. This indicates that the main goal of the occupation is destruction and sabotage, and forcing the residents to leave their homes in an attempt to displace them.
On the other hand, once the occupation vehicles withdrew on Monday morning, the public works, municipal, local government, and UNRWA crews began removing the traces of destruction on the main streets and repairing what could be fixed to facilitate the movement of residents and their vehicles, especially Nablus Street at the eastern entrance of the city.
As a result of this aggression, the Directorate of Education in Tulkarem announced the conversion of the school day to online learning for this day due to the conditions witnessed by the city, while the school day was suspended in Nour Shams camp and will be compensated later.
The IOF intensified daily raids and incursions in various areas of the West Bank since the start of the aggression on Gaza on October 7th of last year. The IOF deliberately destroys infrastructure and public facilities in the areas it invades.
