The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza held the Israeli occupation army fully responsible for the safety and lives of the journalistic crews that were taken to an unknown location after being tortured and brutally beaten at the Shifa Hospital.

The GMO said in a statement on Monday, “As part of the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation after the invasion of the Shifa Medical Complex, the occupation army arrested a group of journalistic and media crews who were covering the Israeli aggression from inside the Shifa Medical Complex, conveying the suffering of our Palestinian people, the wounded, the sick, and the hungry. Among them is the journalist colleague Ismail Al-Ghoul, the correspondent of Al Jazeera channel, and the crew of the channel, as well as other media teams.”

The GMO condemned in the strongest terms these flagrant violations committed by the Israeli occupation army against the journalistic and media crews, holding the Israeli occupation army, the US administration, and the international community fully responsible for the safety and lives of the detained journalistic crews.

It expressed deep concern about the behavior of the occupation army, which did not mention anything about the whereabouts of the media crews after being abducted from the hospital.

The International Federation of Journalists, along with all international and Arab organizations, bodies, and media outlets, was called upon to condemn these ongoing crimes against journalists and media workers operating in Palestine.

The GMO also called for exerting all means of pressure on Israel in order to stop the ongoing genocide that has been going on for six continuous months, especially the genocide against Palestinian journalists and media workers, of whom 135 journalists and media personnel have been killed so far.

For its part, the Palestinian Media Forum (PMF) denounced the arrest of Al Jazeera correspondent Ismail Al-Ghoul by the Israeli occupation forces.

The PMF said in a statement that it was closely following with great concern the arrest by the Israeli occupation forces of Al Jazeera channel correspondent, journalist colleague Ismail Al-Ghoul, and the accompanying crew, during their field coverage of events from the Shifa Hospital square in Gaza City, and the destruction of the satellite broadcasting vehicle.

It added that this comes in the context of a long series of violations against journalists and media outlets, especially the crews of Al Jazeera channel, which lost its cameraman Samer Abu Dakka and had its correspondents Wael Dahdouh, Ismail Abu Omar, and Ahmad Mater injured, exposing the falsehood of the Israeli army claims regarding its respect for the rules of international law and the principles of human rights.

The Forum pointed to the brutality of the Israeli occupation soldiers who beat and assaulted Al Jazeera correspondent Ismail Al-Ghoul and the channel’s crew during their arrest, as well as forcing them to strip despite the cold weather in Gaza.
