The UNRWA said it has been barred by Israel from delivering aid to northern Gaza, where the threat of famine is the highest.
This development was confirmed by UNRWA commissioner-general Philippe Lazzarini, who wrote on social media on Sunday that Israeli authorities informed the UN that they would no longer approve UNRWA food convoys to the north.
Blocking aid by UNRWA, the largest humanitarian organization in Gaza, would make “the clock tick faster towards famine”, Lazzarini said, warning many more will die of hunger and dehydration.
The Israeli occupation army, supported by the US and Europe, has been persisting in committing genocide crimes in the Gaza Strip for 170 consecutive days, leading to the martyrdom of 32,226 people and the injury of 74,518 others, in addition to the displacement of about 90 percent of the Strip’s population, according to official authorities and international bodies and organizations.
