Haneyya meets Erdogan, ceasefire efforts in Gaza on the negotiation table

Ismail Haneyya, the head of the political bureau of Hamas, and a delegation from the Movement’s leadership, met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Saturday evening to discuss the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip, and the efforts made to reach a ceasefire.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the necessity of providing continuous humanitarian aid to the people in the Gaza Strip, as well as Turkish diplomatic efforts to support the Palestinian cause, particularly in light of the genocide being waged against the Palestinian people in the Strip.

The head of the Movement commended the efforts and positions of the Turkish president and Turkish diplomacy, reviewing the overall situation in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation’s crimes and daily massacres against the Palestinian people, as well as the outcome of indirect negotiations and political efforts to stop this aggression.

He also briefed Erdogan on the risks facing the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the occupation’s actions in the city of Jerusalem and the West Bank as a whole, including its violations against prisoners in jails, emphasizing the need for an international stance to halt the Israeli wide-ranging aggression in various locations.

For his part, the Turkish president reaffirmed his country’s steadfast position regarding the Palestinian cause and its efforts to stop the inhumane practices against the Palestinian people, emphasizing the importance of holding Israel accountable for its crimes. He also confirmed that Türkiye would continue to send aid to the Gaza Strip.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue consultations on various developments.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Hakan Fidan, the Foreign Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Kalin, the Chief of the National Intelligence Agency, Fahrettin Altun, the Head of the Communications Authority, and Mr. Sefer Turan, the President’s Advisor. The Hamas delegation included Khaled Mishaal, Khalil Al-Hayyah, Zaher Jabarin, and the Movement’s representative in Türkiye, Musa Akkari.
